Roofing Maintenance To Prevent Storm Damage And Protect Your Home

When it comes to turning your house into a home, it isn't always easy to know where to start. After I purchased my first home, it still felt like someone else's space, which really put a damper on my ability to create a warm, welcoming environment. However, after collecting different things from around the world and learning how to create my own art, I was able to make the kinds of changes I needed to in order to make my place feel like home. I wanted to make a website all about creating a fun, imaginative space, so I started this blog. Check it out!

As storms become more frequent this autumn, make sure your home is prepared and can withstand any damage. Part of the maintenance that needs to be done to prepare for storm damage includes roof repairs and maintenance to prevent damage to your home. Here are some of the maintenance tasks that need to be done to prepare your home for the storm season this year:

1. Clearing Trees Away from Your Roof and Utility Lines

One of the biggest hazards to your home when bad weather comes is the trees around your home. Make sure that the trees have been trimmed and are a safe distance away from your roof, so they do not pose of risk of damaging your home. In addition, keep trees trimmed away from utility lines that can fall on your home, and cause a risk to your home and a personal injury hazard. If you live in a storm prone area, you may want to remove trees on your property that are too close to structures or utility lines.

2. Repairing Leaks, Loose Roofing and Other Roof Damage for Storms Hit

Leaks and other roof damage is something that will make your home more vulnerable if a storm hits. Make sure you prepare for the storms by having these problems repaired before a storm arrives. Inspect your roof for leaks, loose roofing and other damage that needs repairs before bad weather hits. The damage to your roof will allow wind and rain to get under the roofing and cause more serious damage to your home. If you have an aging roof, it may be a good idea to contact a roofing contractor and have them inspect it and complete any repairs that need to be done.

3.Protecting Vulnerable Areas of Your Roof with Hurricane Straps and Other Precautions

There may also be vulnerable areas of your home that need to be protected from storms. If you have an older home, you may want to consider installing hurricane straps, which are metal strips that fasten to wood structural members to hold them in place. If you have had previous storm damage or there are areas of your roof that may be at risk of wind damage, install roofing tarps to provide extra protection to your home from rain and wind damage.

These are some of the roof maintenance tasks that need to be done to prepare your home for storm season. Contact a roofing contractor, such as Premium Panels Inc, to help you with the maintenance of your roof and get ready for the next storm that comes through.
